About the rescuer and the rescue story

Ona Miniotienė was an educated and hardworking woman, respected for her kindness and warmth. With her husband Leonardas, she raised five children — Leona, Feliksas, Ona, Regina, and Zofija. Her grandchildren remember her as someone who always found a way to bring joy, whether through a small gift or a caring word.

During the Holocaust, she shared food, clothing, and the protection of her home with the persecuted — becoming a quiet guardian of dignity and safety.

She spent most of her life in Varlaukis village and her final years in Raseiniai, living with her daughter, a doctor. She remained cheerful and close to her family until her last moments — passing away on her grandson’s birthday, on October 25, 1991.

In 1996, Ona Miniotienė was recognized by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.
